Serena Williams looks set to team up with sister Venus’ coach in her upcoming return from injury. The American tennis legend, Serena Williams is all set to make her comeback in this year’s Wimbledon after a long one-year hiatus. She would first play doubles at Eastbourne with Ons Jabeur and afterwards will swing her racquet on the grass again where she emerged as the champion seven times. She has also received a wild card for the tournament, which begins on Monday, June.
The 40-year-old made a heartbreaking exit in the first round of Wimbledon a year ago after retiring during the first set due to a leg injury, and concerns over her return have grown. Williams, however, took it to Instagram to confirm her comeback to the tournament. She captioned her post with, “SW and SW19. It’s a date. 2022 See you there.”

The Seven-time champion at SW19 will be without her long-term coach Patrick Mouratoglou, who started working with the American ten years ago, as he has now teamed up with two-time Major winner Simona Halep after revealing he gave Williams an ultimatum. It now appears that Serena will be seeking guidance from her sister Venus’ coach Eric Hechtman after he posted an Instagram story sharing his “excitement” for the trip with the younger Williams sister.
“LFG. So pumped for this trip with the [goat emoji],” he wrote, re-posting the 40-year-old’s announcement of her participation at Wimbledon. He also tagged Williams and other members of her team, including hitting partner Jarmere Jenkens. Hechtman then reposted another story from the Ballymena Lawn Tennis Club saying: “The @serenawilliams comeback is on! And with none other than @ericechtman in her camp.”

Eric Hechtman, who has been Venus’ coach since 2019, graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He was the team captain for three years and held the school record for most all-time wins during his tenure there. Hechtman spent time as a hitting partner for players such as Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Venus Williams, and Serena Williams before turning to coach. In addition, he is the Director of the Royal Palm Tennis Club in Florida.
