Who the F*** is the real Boris Becker?

Boris Becker's upcoming documentary, Boom! Boom! The World vs Boris Becker is nothing but attempt to cleanse his tarnished image.

Who the F*** is the real Boris Becker?

“Boom! Boom! The World vs Boris Becker.” One could not have chosen a better headline for the documentary on Boris Becker, the German tennis ace, which will be out on Friday. These days, biopics, documentaries, everything can “sell.” You can create many images, even if it is a trifle fictitious. There is no doubt, “Boom Boom Becker,” a headline which the British media used for the enfant terrible of tennis was a massive hit when the German won his first title at The Championships in Wimbledon in 1985.

How that headline came about is a story in itself. Just as Sir Vivian Richards once thrashing bowlers got him a headline, “Bang, bang, bang..” Becker has tasted plenty of success. He loved it, he relished it. And he was so drunk on his own success, he became a “bas..ard.” The B word was used by Boris himself, during one of his many interviews, for, he had become obscure during his success. He has talked of tunnel vision to win Wimbledon.

Later, he said he hated the Boom, Boom, as it had war-like connotations. At 17, when Becker dived, lunged, volleyed, and was almost parallel to the ground for the volley execution on Centre Court while chasing the fuzzy tennis ball, he was superb. His serve had that thwack, that sonic boom. That’s what won him so many fans, that he became “Boom, Boom, Becker.” At first, Becker relished that headline, as he was a champion. Imagine, not even an adult, conquering Wimbledon.

He went on to win two more Big W titles, plus another three for an assortment of six Grand Slam titles. At that time, it was a big deal, to have won so many titles. He warmed up to celebrity status. So, how did that word come, where Boris called himself as a Capital B, which is used in two ways — bastard or bitch. Here, the protagonist was Becker himself. He talked of what it meant to win at Wimbledon, how he would close out the world during that fortnight.

The many ‘shades’ of Boris Becker

Just imagine, when we see today images of the triumvirate of tennis champions — Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer — their wives are in the frame. Hell, Becker did not care about his wife. The German blonde was in his own world, drunk on success. His first wife was Barbara Feltus, through who he had two children. Becker treated her like shit, then piled on to Lilly, who he later married.

Becker was in awe of himself, he had that image of a debonair, a playboy, what, today, will be called as debauch. Yet, Becker was never repentant. And his habits never changed. Call it a large heart or hormones working overtime, Becker’s ‘sexcapades’ haunted him. One of the (in)famous incidents was a five-second “session” with Angela Ermakova in a brooms cupboard of a London restaurant. This was revealed by Becker himself in his own book (Hold On, Stay A While).

Becker called it not an affair” and “just poom-bah-boom”. Oh, by the way, he had got her pregnant, as well. Why Becker was a serial cheat, he knows best. Just imagine, at that time he had a quick romp with Angela, his wife Barbara was in an advanced stage of pregnancy, leading into labor pain. To say this man was a pervert would be stating the obvious.

Not many would know, Becker may not have had weaknesses in his game of tennis, but certainly in his DNA, specifically relating to women, there was something wrong big time. Becker still got away at most times, just because he was the champion. It’s easy to say, dating and mating is personal life for superstars. No, superstars come under scrutiny every minute their personal life is also public life.

And when he got caught in that massive tax evasion fraud, his goose was cooked. The first tax evasion case was in Germany before he got holed up in a dirty Wandsworth jail in London. He was released and deported from there in December 2022. For him to enter Britain again will not be that easy, as he has been deported.
Any other guy would repent, atone, and pray for forgiveness. No, Boris Becker tells the world he faced crazy times in jail and how he was given poor treatment.

He was not Boris in jail, just a number to identify him. It must have shaken Boris Becker badly because being in jail is not easy. Nobody cares a shit about what you did at Wimbledon or in other walks of life. Maybe, his documentary will be a big hit. He will talk of things, his way, for sure. That is what will be portrayed. Fact or fiction, Becker has the gift of the gab, he knows his tennis and is eloquent when he does commentary. He was a regular at Wimbledon as a commentator.

Now, returning to London is ruled out. Maybe, he will wax eloquently again on the Majors. For those not aware of Boris the split personality, thorough research is easy. If you are going to fall in love with the documentary, great. History remembers him as a champion and a cheat. He cheated on wives and in tax liabilities. Ah, what a title for the documentary “Boom! Boom! The World vs Boris Becker.”
