Why is Serena Williams’ father auctioning a $1.4 Million mansion where he taught his daughters tennis?
Serena Williams’ father and her childhood home
Serena and Venus Williams are two of the greatest tennis players to have played the sport and have played a huge part in popularizing and revolutionizing the sport. They both burst onto the scenes in the late 90s and early 2000s as teenagers and started dominating the women’s circuit at a very young age. They both won multiple major titles as teenagers and were soon on a path toward tennis greatness.
A lot of credit for Venus and Serena’s success goes to their father, Richard Williams, who against all odds, pushed his daughters into tennis. He sacrificed a lot for them and even moved to Florida from California to provide better training to Venus and Serena. Needless to say, the house in Florida where Serena and Venus grew up has a sentimental value to them and to date, remains a historical incident in the lives of the Williams sisters.
But court proceedings were going on for the Florida mansion after Richard split up with his ex-wife and the final hearing for it took place a couple of days ago with the court announcing its verdict. In order to pay the debts of Richard Williams’ estranged wife, Lakeisha, the rotting mansion will be auctioned off. The estimated value of the house is around $1.4 million and the auction for the same will be held on August 25.

Can Serena and Venus Williams get their childhood home back?
Things went ugly 5 years ago when Richard Williams divorced Lakeisha Graham in 2017 and despite everything, Lakeisha was adamant that she had bought the house from Richard for a mere $10. The legendary tennis coach has never accepted or acknowledged these claims and hence the matter went to court.
With the passage of time, Lakeisha’s debt kept increasing and as per reports, a major portion of the sales will be directed towards the lender, David Simon. Simon gave away $255,000 as loan to Lakeisha, who is believed to have forged Richard’s signature in order to take the loan.
The council reportedly stated, “Richard Williams has forever waived any and all claims, defenses and appellate rights he had or has relating to directly or indirectly to the above-captioned suit.” Given the scenario, it looks very unlikely that the Williams family will get the house back and all they can do now is sit and watch.
