Second Round action at the All England Club and Wimbledon has come up with some really crowd-pulling matches in the draw. One of them is between eighth-seed Jannik Sinner and Argentinian Diego Schwartzman.

Diego is not currently seeded at the tournament, and it’s really sad to see how a player of his stature has fallen down the ranks. Diego was among the top 10 best players in the world a few years ago. He now has an uphill task on his hands as he faces one of the world’s top young prospects and possibly one of the very few favorites for this year’s Wimbledon.

Diego Schwartzman hasn’t really had a great 2023 so far and has barely made it out of the first rounds in all the tournaments he has participated in. He now has a glorious chance to get back to his form by beating one of the favorites, and he will no doubt be adamant about going as far as possible in the tournament.

Diego is way past his prime now, and the stats speak for themselves. His best finishes so far are the round-of-32 finishes at the Miami Open, the Barcelona Open, and the Miami Masters. At the French Open, he made it to the third round, and at the Queen’s Championships, he was knocked out by De Minaur in the second round.

Jannik Sinner, on the other hand, witnessed a pretty good season despite winning only one trophy to showcase so far. He made it to the finals of the Rotterdam Open and the Miami Open, only to lose both times to Daniil Medvedev. He also made it to the semi-finals of the Monte-Carlo Masters and the Indian Wells Masters, only to lose against Holger Rune and Carlos Alcaraz, respectively. He lifted his only trophy of this year at the Open Sud De France, beating Maxime Cressy in the final in straight sets.

Jannik Sinner and Diego Schwartzman have previously faced each other three times, with the Italian winning all the matches. Their last meeting was at the Barcelona Open this year in April, where Sinner won 6-2, 6-4.

Both players beat their opponents in the first round quite comfortably and are focused on facing each other in the hotly contested second-round matchup. Schwartzman faced Miomir Kecmanovic in the first round, thrashing the Serbian without any mercy and picking up the first set without letting Miomir open his account. The match ended 6-0, 6-3, 6-4, while on the other hand, Jannik Sinner faced Juan Cerundolo, beating him quite comfortably in straight sets with the scoreline reading 6-2, 6-2, 6-2.

With Diego having very little experience on grass, it’s a no-brainer that Jannik Sinner will have the upper hand in this match.

Prediction: Jannik Sinner to win in four sets.
