Tennis stars competing at Wimbledon have been urged not to tackle any protestors during the two-week tournament. Recently, the second Ashes Test saw an intervention from ‘Just Stop Oil’ Protestors. The All England Club is already taking necessary steps to strengthen their security for the Grand Slam.

During the pitch invasion, players from both sides got involved in stopping the protestors. Jonny Bairstow, the England side’s wicketkeeper, took the extra step and held up a protestor, carrying him off the field. Briton tennis player Cameron Norrie has hinted at doing the same, as he has indirectly received a warning from the authorities to refrain from doing the same.

The protests have been going on for a while now, as other sports in the United Kingdom have seen invasions as well. โ€œThe safety and security of all our players, colleagues and visitors is paramount. Based on what has happened at other sporting events, and on the advice from our key partners, we have reviewed our security plans which have now been uplifted for The Championships accordingly, said All England Club operations director Michelle Dite.

Wimbledon has taken several precautions to ensure that there are no stoppages in play during the two-week tournament. Fans will not be allowed to bring spray paint or glue, or any material which could cause damage to the property. The World Snooker Championships and the Grand National have also been halted with protests this year.

Cameron Norrie suggested taking matters into his own hands if a situation arises. The Briton tennis player joked that he hopes that the protestors arrive at the best moment possible for him to take action. He is unhappy with the frequent protests which have halted play across several sports in the United Kingdom.

โ€œActually at Queen’s they were talking about that. One of the security guards said there was a good chance that one day they would come on and just to be ready for it. Obviously, it could happen. Hopefully, it happens at the best moment possible for me to break the rhythm [laughs]. It is what it is. I will have to deal with it. It has been happening more and more,” said Norrie.

Cameron Norrie last competed at the Queen’s Championships, where he was defeated in the quarterfinals by Sebastian Korda. He had an incredible run at Wimbledon last year, as he managed to reach the semifinals. He eventually lost to Novak Djokovic in four sets, who went on to claim the title.
