Women’s Singles Group Preview
Tracy Austin Group
Iga Swiatek, who has been the best player this season will headline the group. She is miles ahead of everyone else in terms of consistency and delivery this season and has won 8 titles over the course of 7 months including 2 major titles and 4 WTA 1000 titles. Joining her is Coco Gauff, who is the youngest player to qualify for the event in almost 2 decades since Serena Williams. She has made huge ground this season which includes reaching her maiden major final at Roland Garros.
5th seed Caroline Garcia is also in the same group. She has produced some very good results and has been consistent all year. Her best performance of the year came at the US Open where she made it to the semifinals after a title triumph in Cincinnati. Daria Kasatkina is the last player on the list courtesy of a very good clay season and a decent North American hard-court stint.
Nancy Richey Group
Second seed Ons Jabeur will headline the group after becoming the second player after Swiatek to reach the WTA Finals this year. She had a sloppy start to the season but made amends in the clay season where she won the Madrid Open and reached the final of the Italian Open. She then made back-to-back major finals at Wimbledon and the US Open.
Third-seed Jessica Pegula is the second-highest-ranked player in the group and is one of the most consistent players of the season. She made it to the second week of every major this year and also won the biggest title of her career at Guadalajara. Despite all the poor results, Aryna Sabalenka’s US Open run helped her qualify for the WTA Finals whereas Maria Sakkari sneaked in with a solid outing at Guadalajara a week ago.
Semifinals
Iga Swiatek will face Ons Jabeur in the first semifinal. The two are the highest ranked players in the world currently but the surface will favor Swiatek a lot more than Jabeur. Having said that, expect a very tight match.
In the second semifinal, Coco Gauff will be up against Jessica Pegula in an all-American clash. Gauff is scaling new heights everyday while Pegula is in the form of her life. Due to the nature of the surface, Pegula will have a slight edge.
WTA Finals Final: Iga Swiatek vs Jessica Pegula
Finals
Two inform players, Iga Swiatek and Jessica Pegula will meet in the final of the 2022 WTA Finals; i.e. the last match of the season. While Pegula is in tremendous form, Swiatek has been consistent throughout the season. The Pole has shown Pegula how lethal she can be on multiple occasions this season and the same is expected to be the case this time. Expect Swiatek to end the season with a bang, winning her 9th title of the year.
Champion: Iga Swiatek
