Jessica Pegula and Iga Swiatek will face each other in the much-anticipated final match of the 2023 WTA Finals. Both players have had brilliant individual campaigns in the tournament so far, and they are worthy of winning the title. However, only one can have the last laugh and Iga Swiatek, being the higher-ranked player and the second seed, is the favorite to do so.

Jessica Pegula vs. Iga Swiatek: Preview

Jessica Pegula was in the same group as Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, and Maria Sakkari in the WTA Finals. She maintained a perfect record in the group stages, winning all three rounds. Pegula was matched up against her doubles partner Coco Gauff in the semifinals of the tournament and ended up winning against her 6-2, 6-2 pretty convincingly. Thus, the American heads into the final against Iga Swiatek with a perfect record in the tournament so far.

Iga Swiatek, on the other hand, is also unbeaten in the tournament so far. She was in the same group as Marketa Vondrousova, Ons Jabeur, and Coco Gauff in the group stage. Swiatek won all her group-stage matches. She then beat World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinal. The Polish is now in line to replace Aryna Sabalenka at the top of the rankings to become the year-end World No. 1 if she defeats Jessica Pegula in the final.

Jessica Pegula vs. Iga Swiatek: Prediction

Iga and Jessica are currently 5-3 in head-to-head encounters. The two have played a total of eight matches against each other, out of which the Polish won five matches and the American won three matches. As it turns out, seven of those matches took place on hard court (Iga Swiatek is 4-3 ahead in it), and one match took place on clay court (also won by Iga).

Iga Swiatek, being the second seed in the tournament, is definitely expected to have the last laugh in the final against Jessica Pegula. Majority of the fans expect her to win the 2023 WTA Finals. Only time will tell if Swiatek emerges victorious.
