Iga Swiatek vs Aryna Sabalenka: Preview

Iga Swiatek is clearly the best player on the current tour by a mile. She has redefined consistency and is currently riding on a 22-match winning streak. After a good outing at the Australian Open, she has been on a mission. She won the Qatar Open- her maiden WTA 1000 title on the hard courts and backed it up with a title win at Indian Wells. She then completed the Sunshine Double after winning the Miami Open without dropping a set.

This week at Stuttgart, she blasted past Eva Lys in the Round of 16 before getting the better of US Open champion Emma Raducanu in the quarterfinal. She then defeated Ludmilla Samsonova in the semifinal in three sets 6-7(4),6-4,7-5 to book a spot in a fourth consecutive final.

Things haven’t been the best for Aryna Sabalenka this season. She started the season with a Round of 16 outing at the Australian Open and backed it up with a quarterfinal finish in Qatar. Since then, she had a terrible Golden Swing where she didn’t even win one match. Before coming to Stuttgart, she played the Charleston Open where she bowed out in the Round of 16.

In the second round this week, she defeated Bianca Andreescu in the Round of 16 and then won her quarterfinal match against Anett Kontaveit. In the semifinal, she beat second seed Paula Badosa in straight sets 7-6(5),6-4.

Swiatek will play the final as a huge favorite given her recent form and superior ranking. The Pole is definitely the best player on the women’s circuit currently and has a great chance to win 4 consecutive titles. He will look to extend her winning streak to 23 but Sabalenka won’t make things easy for her. The Belarussian has found her lost form and is playing exceptionally well all week. Having said that, Swiatek is expected to win the match and a fourth consecutive title.
