Maxime Cressy, the 25-year-old French-American won his maiden ATP title in the form of the Hall of Fame Open after defeating 25-year-old Russia-born Kazakh, Alexander Bublik by 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (3). Playing in the third final of his career, Cressy was unable to win the first two in Melbourne and Eastbourne but the third time seemed to be the charm for the American.
The highlight of the match, however, was Alexander Bublik’s comments on how lucky Cressy was throughout the match, and his overall attitude during the game. Responding to this, 37-year-old John Isner took to Twitter to share his thoughts on Bublik’s behavior and his comments about the game.
“Congrats to him on his first title,” John Isner comments on Alexander Bublik’s comments after the Newport final
After Alexander Bublik called Cressy ‘lucky’ after his loss to the American, John Isner who previously was eliminated from the Hall of Fame Open after a defeat to Cressy in the semi-finals came in his support and claimed that a player makes his own luck and went on to congratulate Cressy for the title win.
Cressy had to fight hard for the victory, however, as it was not, in any way easy for him. Losing the first set and then losing the first three games of the second set seemed to put Cressy in a very difficult position but he managed to make a sensational comeback eventually winning the match and his first ever ATP title.
Cressy, in his tweet, said, “you make your own luck. Max plays a game that makes opponents extremely uncomfortable. Congrats to him on his first title.” Isner in a way took a dig at Bublik after his irrational behavior after the loss. In response to Bublik’s comments, Maxime Cressy apologized for being lucky and expressed his gratitude and his contentment at winning his first ever title.
