“You taught Tsitsipas in Wimbledon that he is stupid” Fans react to Nick Kyrgios’ self-claim of winning the Coach of the Year award
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nick Kyrgios
Nick Kyrgios always brings entertainment along with him irrespective of whether he is on or off the court. A true definition of the word ‘enigma’, none can deny the fact that Kyrgios attracts the crowd towards the sport, be it through his on-court skills or brash behavior.
The 27-year-old had a fantastic resurgence this season. Ranked outside the Top 100 in singles at the start of the year, Kyrgios finished the year ranked 22nd in the world. He won his first Grand Slam title at the 2022 Australian Open Men’s Doubles which helped him play at the 2022 ATP Finals in doubles, making his debut at the year-end championships.
It’s well known that Kyrgios doesn’t have a coaching team at his disposal. The Australian plays without a coach and has his own strategies in use. Kyrgios has been without a coach since 2017 and it’s highly unlikely that he will bring a coach in near future. While he has received criticism for even this, the Australian recently had a hilarious take on nominations for this year’s ‘Best Coach’ award.
Kyrgios managed to reach the finals of the 2022 Wimbledon and the quarter-finals of the 2022 US Open while rising more than 100 places as he was ranked as low as World No. 137 in February this year. Replying to journalist Jose Morgado who put out a tweet mentioning nominations for ATP’s year-end awards, Kyrgios tweeted, “Tbh I should be in coach of the year, I coached myself to a Wimbledon final.”
Fans come up with creative responses to Nick Kyrgios’ tweet
Kyrgios‘ tweet quickly went viral and many tennis fans came up with hilarious and creative analogies and responses to his tweet. While he certainly did make the comment for a fun, even the fans took it light-heartedly while sending out their responses.
While many players rope in former players, Kyrgios has refused many times saying that all the coaches tried to discipline him and make him change while he believes in playing on instinct. The former World No. 13 believes that he’s set himself in a manner where he doesn’t need a coach and has admitted that he didn’t listen to coaches as well so it makes no sense to bring one.
