Australian Star Nick Kyrgios set to make a comeback at this tournament!
Nick Kyrgios
World No. 95 Nick Kyrgios is set to return to Tour action in the first week of January as the Tour moves Down Under, his homeland. Nick has not played since September as he was forced to end the season early due to an injury ending one of his worst seasons as he was out for majority of the season due to injuries.
With a well-taken rest in the past few months, the Australian is set to return to action at the ATP-250 event in Melbourne where he has been handed a main-draw wildcard as his ranking required him to go through the qualifiers first.
The Melbourne Summer Set will begin from January 4 where he will be joined by Rafael Nadal, Reilly Opelka, Benoit Paire, Kei Nishikori, Grigor Dimitrov and many others in what will be a busy week as a parallel event will be played in Adelaide, while Sydney hosts the 2022 ATP Cup from January 1 to January 9.
Nick Kyrgios played just 15 matches in 2021
Nick started his 2021 season in Australia where he was defeated in the 3rd round by Dominic Thiem in the Australian Open, his only tournament Down Under this year. He did not play on the Tour till the Grass season which ended in an injury withdrawal at the Wimbledon Championships, his only grass tournament for the season.
He skipped the Tokyo Olympics citing the conditions were “non-Olympic” and did not wish to play without his family watching as the event was held behind closed doors. He returned to Tour in August but did not yield good results facing some early exits and failing to reach a single semi-final.
After his 2nd round exit from Atlanta, he lost in consecutive first rounds at Washington, Toronto and then at the US Open. He came back to represent Team World for the Laver Cup where he failed to win any match. With a new season on the way, better things will be expected by the player and his fans as well as Kyrgios on the court is never a dull moment.
