Cameron Norrie has had a dream season so far and is one of the most improved player on the ATP tour. He reached the final of the Estoril Open and Lyon Open on clay before reaching the final at Queen’s Club on grass. He took a set against Roger Federer at Wimbledon but bowed out in the third round. He then won the Los Cabos Open before reaching the final of the San Diego Open.

At the Californian desert this week, he defeated the likes of Tennys Sandgren and Roberto Bautista Agut in the initial rounds before beating Tommy Paul in the Round of 16. He then blasted past Diego Schwartzman in the quarterfinal and got the better of Grigor Dimitrov in the semifinals in straight sets 6-2,6-4.

Nikoloz Basilashvili has blown hot and cold so far this season. Early on in the year, he won the Qatar Open and Bavarian International but had a poor clay court season. He bounced back on grass and reached the semifinal of the Halle Open and also made it to the third round of the US Open.

This week at Indian Wells, he got the better of Christopher Eubanks and Albert Ramos Vinolas in the early rounds before ousting Olympic silver medalist Karen Khachanov in the Round of 16. He then pulled an upset over second seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarterfinal before beating Taylor Fritz in the semifinal in straight sets 7-6(5),6-3.

This will be the second meeting between the duo. Norrie leads the H2H 1-0. They last met at Rotterdam earlier this year where Norrie won in straight sets.

When the tournament started, no one predicted that either one Norrie or Basilashvili will play the final. So needless to say, both players have punched above their weight to reach their maiden masters final and will fancy their chances equally for a maiden masters title.

While Norrie will back his angular forehands, Basilashvili will look to power his way through the Brit’s defense. Having said that, the match is likely to go down the distance and Norrie is expected to be the first Brit since Andy Murray to win a masters title.
