World No.1 Novak Djokovic stormed past British teenager Jack Draper in the first round of Wimbledon 2021 after a minor hiccup. Draper shocked Djokovic by winning the opening set but the top seed raised his level and won the match in four sets 4-6,6-1,6-2,6-2 and moved into the second round.

In his win, Djokovic went on to serve 25 aces in the whole match, double faulting just once and winning 87% of points on his first serve. He hasn’t served this good in recent times and has hammering aces to which Draper had no answers. Particularly, serving for the set when 5-2 up in the third set, Djokovic blasted 4 aces in a row and won the game in just 46 seconds!

Interestingly, all of Djokovic’s first serve aces came down the ‘T’ on the centre line and Draper was left guessing where the ball would go. In the post match interview, Djokovic praised Draper and said that he had the perfect mindset to be a champion. He then also went on to say this was one of his best serving performances.

“I think I probably had one of the best serving performances that I can recall on any surface. I think I matched, someone told me, the record I had whether it was earlier this year or last year in Australia, also 25 aces in four sets.”

Novak Djokovic currently has 19 slams to his name. He won the Australian Open and French Open earlier this year and has a golden opportunity to win his 20th at Wimbledon and equal Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer in the all-time list. Given his form, he is the hot favorite to go all the way.

The World No.1 also has an opportunity to do a rare golden slam by winning all the four majors this year. He has been handed a fairly easy draw at the Championships this fortnight and will fancy his chances to go deep without breaking much sweat. He will face South African big server, Kevin Anderson in the second round of Wednesday.
