Amused by the question at first the world No.1 said, “What is a neutral surface? Is it ice? Is it water?”

After that Djokovic said, “I think that the best images that I have ever seen from tennis are them playing on HALF GRASS HALF CLAY court. I thought that was fantastic, whoever came up with the idea was genius and as a tennis fan, I enjoyed it very much. SO whoever won that match, you have your answer”.

Before the Half Grass Half Clay match, it was believed that both Federer and Nadal were just horses for courses. Nadal was unbeatable on Clay and so was Federer on Grass. However, both of them did win French Open as well as Wimbledon in their careers.

On 2nd May, 2007 Federer and Nadal played the Battle of Surfaces. Where half the court was Grass and the other Half was Clay. The two battled it out in a 3 set game which Nadal eventually won (7-5, 4- 6, 7-6 (12-10)).

If Djokovic truly meant what he said then according to him Rafael Nadal is a better player when compared with Roger Federer.

But the Serb went ahead to say that, “No i mean it’s difficult to say who is better because three of us we’re all so different, we have different styles, we have different trajectories or journies to where we are at this moment and we all had temendous success, some more on one surface, some on the other surface, we do compliment each other and i think the rivalry between the big 3 so to say is phenomenal for our sport. So the more traction, the more conversation there is around the three of us the better in general for our sport. So yeah i hope people keep talking about it”.
