Former world number 1 Pliskova reached the final at the Italian Open for the second consecutive year and she had to settle for the runner-up trophy, falling to Iga Swiatek. Her season-defining run came in Wimbledon where she reached her second Grand Slam final. As fate would have it, Pliskova lost in that round once again – this time to Ashleigh Barty.
In her last couple of tournaments in Bad Homburg and Wimbledon, Cornet was beaten right in the second round respectively by Victoria Azarenka and Ajla Tomljanovic. She does, however, have Olympic experience, having participated at the 2016 Rio Olympics. She reached the second round before being brushed aside by the legendary Serena Williams.

Pliskova holds a 3-1 lead over Cornet and has won her last three meetings against the French international. The pair last met in the 2019 Miami Open where Karolina won in three sets.

Pliskova has been incredibly inconsistent as shown by the fact that between the Italian Open and the major in London, she lost her opening round matches in three different tournaments. All that World number 66 Cornet can do is hope for a miracle.
