‘Polish Power’ Tennis world goes berserk over Iga Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz’s dominance at the Miami Open as they reach the last 4

Iga Swiatek, Hubert Hurkacz
The 2022 Miami Open has been full of surprises with plenty of upsets, retirements and some exceptional performances and one such surprise has to be the Polish dominance on display. Reigning champion Hubert Hurkacz always seems to bring a different kind of energy whenever he plays in Miami Open and once again, he is in the semifinals playing sublime tennis. On the other hand, Iga Swiatek has been sensational and is only getting better with every passing game.
It has been a dominance that hardly anyone could predict. Things happened very fast for both the players as they also peaked at the right time. Iga Swiatek has had a whirlwind journey till now as she recently got crowned the world no. 1 following Ashleigh Barty’s shocking retirement.
While people thought the burden of such a title at a young age will derail her career, Swiatek has actually shown signs of relishing this opportunity. She has been flawless since then as she recently got the better of Jessica Pegula in straight sets. The youngster is yet to drop a set in Miami and has played some sensational tennis.
Iga Swiatek firing on all cylinders at the Miami Open

The 20-year-old is a natural talent and will get better with more matches. She started her Miami Open journey against Viktorija Golubovic and did not have much trouble getting past the Swiss. But her performances against Madison Brengle and Coco Gauff were really noteworthy. She hardly broke a sweat against any of the two.
Swiatek then went up against 2-time Grand Slam veteran Petra Kvitova in the quarterfinals and breezed past the Czech without much trouble. She was under s little pressure in the semifinals against Jessica Pegula but she worked her way through it and ultimately reached the finals. The former French Open winner will now face Naomi Osaka in the finals, which can very well prove to be the rivalry for the crown in Women’s tennis for the next decade or so.
Hubert Hurkacz has been a star performer in Singles and Doubles at the Miami Open

Hubert Hurkacz on the other hand has been dominant in his journey to the semifinal in Miami. He has been very good with his serves and has even returned very consistently to keep his opponents on their toes. The World No. 10 has had a topsy turvy ride this year. He reached the semifinals of the ATP Cup only to get beaten by Roberto Bautista Agut in an intense clash. However, he failed to back that up with a top performance at the Australian Open as he bowed out in the second round after losing to Adrian Mannarino.
Since then he has not had noteworthy performances as he faced two round of 16 exits in Rotterdam and at the Indian Wells. He was good in Doha as he reached the semifinals only to be beaten by Andrey Rublev. But he always tends to give his best at the Miami Open and once again he has done that with some sublime tennis. Hurkacz on his journey to the semifinals has beaten players like Arthur Rinderknech, Aslan Karatsev, Llyod Harris, and Daniil Medvedev respectively. Almost all his matches went to the tiebreaker but mostly have ended in straight except the one against Karatsev where the match went to the third set.
Last year he was ecstatic when he won the Miami Open defeating Jannik Sinner as it was his first-ever ATP 100 Masters title. Bu the competition is tougher this year and seems like Hurkacz has turned up like he was expecting it to be. The 25-year-old would have gained massive confidence from the win against Medvedev and will hope to carry that forward as he takes on in-form Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals.
Lastly, Hurkacz along with his Doubles partner John Isner is in the finals of the Men’s Doubles of the Miami Open where they will go up against the pairing of Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski. It will be very interesting if the Polish players bag three of the four titles available at the tournament.
