Former World No.1 Rafael Nadal had a great start of the new 2022 season. The player started the season by competing at the ATP Melbourne Summer Set tournament and eventually winning it by defeating Maxime Cressy 7-6, 6-3.

At the Australian Open 2022 to the player has given commendable performance hence proving his comeback worthy. He reached the semifinals by defeating Denis Shapovalov in the quarterfinals with a score of 6-3, 6-4, 4-6, 3-6, 6-3. Both the players gave their best but Rafa finally knocked out his opponent and moved a step ahead to claim his 21st Grand Slam title ahead of Novak and Roger.

The quarterfinal match between Rafa and Denis gained heat when Denis condemned the umpire for not handing Rafa a code of violation as he was talking to the umpire during the match. Denis also called the umpire corrupt.

On the matter, former tennis legend and seven tunes Grand Slam winner Mats Wilander said that Rafa deserves to be at the court and compete. He also said that Denis should try focusing more on his game. He also suggested that Denis should calm his mind and try not to get irritated while playing.

“Rafa plays on Rod Laver Arena because he deserves to be there. And I don’t think there’s any way you are not going to give the great champions some slack at some points. It’s part of our sport a bit, it’s not fair. Rafa deserves a bit of that if it’s not fair, but Denis will realise that you need a bit more time. Denis most probably needs to go onto the court and think ‘what will not make me irritated? That’s right, Rafa taking too long, that cannot interfere with my brain’.” Mats said.
