In an interview, the former world No.7 Richard Gasquet opened up about the worrying drop in the standards of French tennis. Gasquet is in the last stages of his own career, he was considered to be a very talented player on the ATP tour but he wasn’t able to leave his mark at the highest level, due to the sheer dominance of the big three.
Gasquet in his interview talked about the dropping standards of French tennis. He even went ahead to call 2021 to be one of the worst years in French tennis. Gasquet also asked French fans to lower their expectations from the French players. Finally, the Frenchman talked about the importance of the coming year and gave some hope to the French fans.

Richard Gasquet opened by talking about how bad the year has been for French tennis. He said, “It was a very bad year, really sad that no Frenchman has reached the Round of 16 in Grand Slam tournaments.”
The former world No.7 also told the fans to lower their expectations from the players. He said, “Unfortunately, in the circuit, there are me, Gael Monfils, Tsonga, and Gilles Simon and now people should understand that they should expect less of us. In previous eras and ours, we have had several guys in the Top Ten.”
In the end, the Frenchman talked about the importance of the coming year and how the young players need to come up and fight to get into the top 10 rankings of the world. He said, “Next year is very important for young French tennis players and I hope someone can fight to get into the top ten in the world. This situation is really worrying for us and for all French tennis.”
Although it is a worry-some time for French tennis, the fans still hope that the next year will bring much more achievements and titles into French tennis.
