Ruud comes into this tournament after a fourth-round exit at the recently concluded tournament in Indian Wells. Although he didn’t play the Antwerp Open, the Norwegian won the title in San Diego earlier in the month.

Despite starting the year as a clay-court specialist, Ruud gradually adapted to the hard courts, owing to which he even made consecutive quarterfinals in Toronto and Cincinnati Masters, ahead of the US Open. The fourth seed will be keen on making another deep run this week in Vienna to enhance his chances of qualifying for the ATP Finals in Turin next month.

Meanwhile, the South African will be confident of his chances too after an impressive showing last week in Antwerp. Harris reached the semis in Belgium before being stopped by the Italian sensation Jannik Sinner. Like his opponent, Harris too has experienced a decent time on the hard courts in 2021.

With a finalist spot in Dubai earlier in the year, followed by a quarterfinal run in Washington and the US Open, the 23-year-old is not going to be a pushover in Vienna this week.
