Nao Hibino, similar to Elena reaches the 2nd round for the 2nd time in successive years after both of them were knocked out in the 2nd round at the 2020 French Open. Hibino emerged victorious against Serbian player Nina Stojanovic in straight-sets winning the match 7-6(4), 6-2.

This will be the 3rd meeting between the duo and 2nd meeting at the Roland Garros. They first met at the 2019 French Open followed by a meeting in the WTA Strasbourg Open 2020, with Rybakina winning the matches in straight-sets on both the occasions. Elena Rybakina leads the head-to-head tie 2-0.

Elena Rybakina
Elena Rybakina

Elena Rybakina comes into the tie with 3-3 record on Clay for the season whereas Hibino will come in with 5-7 on the surface this season. Hibino has not enjoyed much success on soil while Elena has a better record across their careers as well. Both of them will be looking for the win as it would give them their best run at the tournament having failed to reach the 3rd round so far.

However, given current form and record on the surface, Rybakina seems to be the favourite here.

Prediction: Elena Rybakina to win in straight-sets in the second round of the French Open 2021.
