‘He lit up every room he walked into,’ Serena Williams shares a heartfelt video for late friend Virgil Abloh

At the age of 41, renowned fashion designer Virgil Abloh passed on Sunday after battling a rare form of cancer. Abloh was one of the most prominent figures in the fashion industry was known for his creative mind. He bought a new thinking in fashion which had no limits and guided modern fashion to a new dimension altogether. Needless to say, the world is mourning the passion away of such a legendary figure.
He was very close to 23-time grand slam champion Serena Williams. Abloh, who was the founder of luxury fashion label, Off-white worked very closely with Williams and Nike on a few outfits she donned on the court few years ago. He also designed some of Serena’s court outfits- especially in the 2018 season.
Abloh was the designer of one of Serena’s most iconic on-court outfit- her 2018 French Open bodysuit. This particular outfit was special for Serena as this was after she gave birth to Olympia. The outfit had a different charisma to it and it portrayed her as a superhero. “I feel like a warrior in it, like a warrior princess,” Serena said of Abloh’s catsuit in 2018.
‘Words Cannot Express the Sorrow’: Serena Williams
After his death, Serena shared a heart-rending 25 secs video for Abloh where she could be seen with him having a good time.
“Words cannot express the sorrow I feel on the passing of my friend @virgilabloh. I will forever be grateful to have had the opportunity to witness such greatness, such genius and to feel the warmth of his smile,” she wrote.
“It was my honor to stand next to him. He lit up every room he walked into. May his beloved family and friends find comfort in knowing how profoundly his art impacted our culture, and us all. I will miss you.”
Not only Serena, almost all tennis stars who’ve worked with him including sister Venus and Maria Sharapova have expressed their sorrow for the same.
