Sinner comes into this round after beating fellow Italian Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets. Being the top seed this week in Belgium might add some pressure on him, but the 20-year-old has responded well to some of the challenges in 2021. After losing in the fourth round of the 2021 US Open, the Italian went onto win the title in Sofia last month. Later, he went down in the fourth round of the recently concluded Indian Wells Masters to Taylor Fritz. Sinner even raised a few eyebrows by reaching the finals of the Miami Masters in March. Yet another potential semifinal appearance for the year awaits the Italian.

On the other hand, Rinderknech comes into this match after beating Dusan Lajovic in three sets in the previous round. He also beat Federico Delbonis earlier in the tournament. Although the Frenchman did reasonably well on the clay, his record on the hard courts has been poor this year. While Rinderknech did make semifinals of the Rennes Challenger, he has been exiting several tournaments on the hard courts over the past few months.

These two have met only once on the ATP tour. Rinderknech beat Sinner on the clay of Lyon in three sets, earlier in the year.

Rinderknech has slammed 18 aces in his last two rounds, which won him many free points. However, his second serve hasn’t been very consistent and the return game too hasn’t been clinical. For Sinner it will be another test of how he sticks to the basics, like he did in his opening round against fellow countryman Musetti.

Match Prediction: Jannik Sinner should win in two sets.
