Stefanos Tsitsipas on bathroom breaks: ‘I am a person who likes to take his time, but not as much as the women’

Ever since the World No.3 Stefanos Tsitsipas took an extended bathroom break in his opening round match against Andy Murray at the recently concluded, 2021 US Open, he has been under the scanner.
The Greek star has been hounded by several allegations on whether he is deliberately using the ploy to distract his opponents from gaining momentum. While the ATP rules remain unclear, Murray and Alexander Zverev have come hard on the 2020 French Open finalist.
Although Tsitsipas got stunned in the third round in New York by Spanish sensation, Carlos Alcaraz, he has been constantly answering and justifying his actions to various media channels and publications.
Recently, in an interview with the Greek television, Tsitsipas once again defended his actions and refuted claims of any malpractice. Funnily, the top-ranked Greek even said that he takes less time in comparison to the women on tour.
“When I just won the set 6-0 and take a toilet break, I don’t think it’s very good for me. And I did that too, so it’s really not malicious. I am a person who likes to take his time. It takes a lot of me. Well, not as much as the women.”
Tsitsipas also shared his take on the newly crowned US Open champion Daniil Medvedev. Although both players have publicly stated their dislike for one another, the Greek star didn’t hold back from praising the Russian. He event stated that the World No.2 isn’t boring as many might think, but one-dimensional in his playing style.
Speaking on Medvedev’s maiden Grand Slam victory in New York and pattern of play, Tsitsipas said, “Medvedev is very consistent, he is a very difficult opponent. It surprises me that he manages to achieve such results by playing this style of tennis. I wouldn’t say he is boring. I would say it is one-dimensional.”
Tsitsipas a part of Laver Cup
Although the 23-year-old did miss his country’s Davis Cup tie, last week against Lithuania, due to a lingering foot problem, he is expected to participate in the upcoming 2021 edition of the Laver Cup in Boston.
As a marquee player, one would expect Tsitsipas to be one of the main players for Team Europe as they take on Team World.
