Roger Federer and Ash Barty
Ash Barty comfortably sailed into the Semi-finals of the Australian Open 2022. The world No.1 is in tremendous form and hasn’t dropped a single set on her way into the semi-finals.
Barty being the local girl is putting up a great show in front of her home crowd. She won her Quarter-Final match against Jesicca Pegula in straight sets. During the match Tennis legend, Jim Courier complimented Barty’s backhand slice and called it ‘THE BEST!’. He even said that it was better than Roger Federer’s backhand slice.

Ash Barty won her quarter-final match against the American Jessica Pegula in straight sets 6-2, 6-0. She went on a rampage and got a bagel in the second set.
During the world No.1’s domination on court, Tennis legend Jim Courier was commentating on Barty’s match and he said, “It’s unquestioned she’s the best player on the planet, Here comes a breakpoint and again, the slice, just stays so low. Ash’s [Ashleigh Barty’s] slice technique is arguably the best backhand slice technique in the world, period, men’s (or) women’s tennis. Roger Federer if you’re back in Switzerland listening, that’s right, I said it bud let’s call it a draw,”
Barty during her post-match press conference was asked about Courier’s praise for her backhand slice and about the fact that he called it to be better than Roger Federer’s backhand slice. To which she replied by saying, “That’s very kind of Jim, I think everyone’s shots are unique. Obviously, Roger has one of the best backhand slices in the game. Mine is a LONG WAY OFF that. In no stretch of the imagination are we on the same page at all.”
Barty added, “But I love to use my slice, I love to get creative with it, to use it offensively and defensively, and over my career I have learned that it is a weapon for me. I try and use it when I have to, sometimes I try and use it when it’s my choice and I can be really really aggressive with it but being able to use it with variety and to have different options has been a massive part of my game.”
Barty will be facing Madison Keys another American in her Semi-Final match and the Australian fans will be hoping for the local girl to emerge victoriously.
