‘The point of the year’- Fans go crazy as Carlos Alcaraz wins a double tweener point against Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Miami Open

Carlos Alcaraz and Stefanos Tsitsipas

Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz is easily one of the most exciting talents on tour currently. His exceptional movement and strokeplay have often landed him in comparisons with Spanish legend Rafael Nadal. Alcaraz is in sensational form at the Miami Open as he breezed past Stefanos Tsitsipas in the round of 16 but that did not grab the headlines.

Fans went crazy on social media after watching a double tweener from Alcaraz and Tsitsipas. However, it was the Spaniard who had the last laugh.

The incident happened right at the start of the match even before the players settled on the court and got used to each other’s playing style. It was a sensational piece of stroke play from both players but Alcaraz placed his tweener a little better than Tsitsipas. Therefore he could steer Tsitsipas’ tweener down the open court to earn that point.

At only 18 years of age Alcaraz has been sensational on the ATP tour. He won the Croatia Open and became the youngster player to win an ATP title since Kei Nishikori. He then bagged another title at the Rio Open where he defeated Diego Schwartzmann in the finals.

He has kept up with the consistency and has reached the latter stages in almost all the events. He defeated former World No. 1 Andy Murray, at the Indian Wells before getting knocked out by compatriot and idol Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals of the event.

Alcaraz’s performance at the Miami Open has also caught the eyes of the fans and critics. He has been a live wire on the court. He started his campaign against Marton Fucsovics in the first round. The youngster was then up against a tricky test as he faced the veteran Marin Cilic but hardly had any trouble in getting past the Croatian.

But his biggest win has to be against World No. 4 Stefanos Tsitsipas in the round of the 16 of the tournament. Moreover, it is not about the win, it is about the manner in which he won. Alcaraz absolutely dominated the Greek as he won 7-5, 6-3 to storm his way through to the quarterfinals.

The Spaniard will face the in-form Serbian star Miomir Kecmanovic. Ranked 48th in the World, Kecmanovic has had a great tournament defeating players like Jack Sock, Felix Auger Aliassime, Sebastian Korda and Taylor Fritz on his way to the quarterfinals. So the 22-year-old can be a thorn in the flesh for Alcaraz.
