Things are not going in former US Open champion Dominic Thiem‘s as of now. The Austrian superstar has been out of action for the last 7 months and was all set to stage a comeback in Cordoba this week. But Thiem pulled out at the last minute and looked to compete at the Argentina Open next week. But now, Thiem has decided to skip the ‘Golden Swing’ and hence has withdrawn from all the next three tournaments he was scheduled to play- Argentina Open, Rio Open, and Chile Open.

Thiem said that his training was going well in Vienna and he was nearing 100% fitness but due to a minor setback, he was forced to take this decision. “Training was going well in Vienna and I am so happy that I’ve made a full recovery regarding my wrist. Unfortunately, I have suffered this minor setback in Santiago, which has forced me to temporarily stop training,” Thiem said.

He further said that it is never easy to come back from an injury and added that he will start training next week again on his doctor’s advice. “It’s never easy to come back after being away from competition for seven months. I will follow my doctor’s advice and after resting for a couple of days, I will start training again next week. I need some consistent time on-court before making my comeback,” he said.

Due to his time away from the tour, Thiem has already lost a lot of points and hence has slipped down the rankings. After the 2022 Australian Open, Thiem has lost points from the 2020 Oz Open and has dropped 21 places to No.37 in the ATP Rankings. In the next two weeks, he will drop points from 2021 Australian Open and the 2021 Qatar Open.

He will also drop points from the 2020 Rio Open and hence will likely lose around 500 points before Indian Wells Masters. He will most certainly be out of the Top 50 ahead of Indian Wells.
