Unquestionably, a Grand Slam final is a different ball game altogether from any other tennis match with the highest reward up for grabs. The women’s singles final of the Wimbledon Championships 2021 was played out today and numerous Hollywood celebrities, including Tom Cruise and Priyanka Chopra, graced the center court for the match.

Other dignitaries at the event included Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, Britain’s Prince William, and Billie Jean King. As expected, the 127th Wimbledon ladies singles Final between World No.1 Ashleigh Barty and eighth seed Karolina Pliskova proved to be a treat for the dignitaries in the crowd.

Ash Barty joins Margaret Court and Evonne Goolagong in the elite list of Australian to lift the Venus Rosewater Dish. The world no.1 beat Karolina Pliskova in three sets 6-3,6-7(4),6-3 to win her second grand slam title. She also becomes the first Australian to win Wimbledon since Lleyton Hewitt in 2002 and the first female Aussie to win since Evonne Goolagong in 1980.

Pliskova was very nervous as she was playing a grand slam final after 5 years. She wasn’t able to get her first serve in place and was missing easy shots. Barty took advantage of her nervousness and got the decisive break early on.

She didn’t stop and broke Pliskova once again to take a 5-1 lead. She was serving for the set when the Czech staged a mini-comeback. It looked like Pliskova could pull off a Mission Impossible with Tom Cruise in the audience as she broke Barty for the first time but lost the set 3-6.

The second set was a lot tighter than the first. Pliskova had found her groove and didn’t show any signs of nervousness but the momentum was still with Barty and she got the early break to take a formidable lead. But a late surge from Pliskova saw her break Barty’s serve and draw level at 5-5. The set went into the tiebreaker and Pliskova ran away with it, dropping just 4 points to force a decider.
