The Australian comes from a 4th round defeat at the 2021 Indian Wells, her best run since the hardcourt season resumed again having seen quite a few early exits otherwise.

Liudmila Samsonova will enter the main-draw of the Kremlin Cup for the first time after having failed to reach the main-draw in her 2019 appearance. The 22-year old Russian comes from a 2nd round defeat at the Indian Wells and similar to Ajla, has been highly inconsistent. She did however reach the semi-finals of the 2021 Luxembourg Open, her best run on hard courts in the 2nd half of the season.
