“He defies the odds” Tennis Twitter lauds Novak Djokovic as the ‘Greatest’ after he managed to qualify for the ATP Finals without the need of Wimbledon points

Tennis legend, Novak Djokovic, qualified for the ATP Finals tournament for 2022 without playing in the Australian Open and the US Open due to his unvaccinated status against COVID-19. Although he won Wimbledon, that tournament did not add any points to his account. Thus, no consequence on his ATP ranking. Despite this, the Serb still managed to qualify for the Finals because of ATP’s Grand Slam Champion provision, a rule that allows entry to winners placed between the rankings of No. 8 to No. 20.

For those uninitiated, Novak is currently ranked No.7 in the ATP Rankings. Since the Top 8 players in the rankings can participate in the ATP Finals tournament, Djokovic got his chance.

However, it soon turned into a controversy when Cameron Norrie called out the ATP for Djokovic’s “unfair” qualification process. The topic instantly started making rounds on the internet, with several viewers and fans trying to decipher why and how the Serb managed this accomplishment.

One of his fans wondered and posted this on social media with the following caption.

Novak Djokovic among the best eight players of the Race 2022… Without playing Australian Open, Indian Wells, Miami, Montreal, Cincinnati and US Open… Winning Wimbledon and getting zero points… If this is not a feat…!

The 21-time Grand Slam winner won the Tel Aviv and Astana Open, post the Championship Final. He also won the Italian Open this year. Novak Djokovic is participating in the Paris Masters 2022 and is determined to defend his title. He defeated the Italian Lorenzo Musetti convincingly to book a semi-final berth in the ongoing competition. He will face Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece to advance into the final round of the tournament.

After a tough start to the ATP tour this season, Novak Djokovic is finally producing some extraordinary tennis on the court. With that being said, it seems like his Wimbledon victory did a lot for his confidence. He will try to compete in the ATP Finals next after the Paris Masters 2022 tournament. With his win on Friday in the Paris Masters, the Serb stacked up enough points to finish in the top 8 spots for the year 2022. As expected, his victory was celebrated by his fans, with Twitter users hailing him for his focus on his form and his fight against all odds despite going through a pretty rough year.

Sharing a wide spectrum of reactions online, here are a few reactions to the post above.

He will try to win this tournament for a record sixth time and equal Roger Federer’s record who has won the tournament’s highest number of times. The Serbian has won the title five times and is currently tied with Pete Sampras in second place.

He would also like to be in a better state of mind next year as he will start his campaign in various tournaments of the ATP Tour 2023. The suspense over his participation in the Australian Open is refusing to die down. But like most of us, everybody wishes to see the nine-time Australian Open champion play Down Under.
