WATCH: ‘Point of the season?’ Carlos Alacaraz wins an extraordinary point against Brandon Nakashima at NextGen Finals

World No. 32 and the top-seed at the 2021 NextGen ATP Finals, Carlos Alcaraz recorded his second consecutive straight-set win to set one foot in the semi-finals of the competition as he sits on the top of the table with 2 wins in 2 matches.
Alcaraz registered his first win against Holger Rune, defeating the Danish player 4-3(6), 4-2, 4-0 and then defeated American youngster Brandon Nakashima 4-3(4), 4-1, 4-3(4) in the second match. The young Spaniard continues to justify his tag as the next big thing and apart from straight-set wins, he has also shown great athleticism fighting for every single point by running up and down the court.
One similar instance of his determination with a slice of luck came during his match against Nakashima in the second set. Having already won the first set, Carlos was leading 3-0 and it was Brandon’s serve. In a textbook manner, Nakashima approached the net to have Carlos running around the corners but a spicy exchange between the two saw Carlos at the net with Brandon on the baseline.
A forehand from Brandon coming his way, Carlos already committed himself on his for a backhand diving to his left but the ball hit the net and bounced right in front of him to which the Spaniard hit from the back of his hand and guided the ball towards the side which became impossible for the American to catch it and subsequently lose the point.
The play for the single point received a rousing reception from the fans who clapped and cheered the two youngsters for their exceptional talent and determination fighting for every single point having both been once at the net and then rushing to the baseline during the small rally.
Carlos Alcaraz to now take on Juan Manuel Cerundolo
Alcaraz will now clash with Argentine Juan manual Cerundolo who faced defeated in both of his previous matches and is now out of contention for a place in the semi-finals of the competition as the other tie between Nakashima and Rune will decide who gets the second spot in the group given Alcaraz is able to defeat Cerundolo.
