Stefanos Tsitsipas is widely considered as one of the most talented players of his age. Despite losing in the Roland Garros finals to Novak Djokovic, he appeared to be in terrific shape. He pushed the world number one under a lot of strain by winning the first two sets in a row.
Ascendance and fame
Stefanos Tsitsipas began playing tennis with his parents, who worked as coaches at a summer resort in Greece, when he was three years old. His father, a travelling coach, and mother, a former pro tennis player and coach, taught him the game. He started his junior career in 2013, when he was 15 years old.
Even though he lost to Stefan Kozlov in the final of the Orange Bowl, a famous junior tennis event, he reached the final in 2014. He replicated his achievement in 2015, reaching the Orange Bowl final once more, but this time losing to Miomir Kecmanovic.
The Greek then relocated from his birthplace near Athens to Mouratoglou Tennis Academy in France, where he witnessed a significant improvement in his game in 2016, which marked a turning point in his career. He won his first important title, the Trofeo Bonfiglio, in Milan, Italy, followed by a triumph in the Boys’ Doubles in the Junior Wimbledon Championships in London, partnering with Kenneth Raisma.
Tsitsipas rose to the top of the global junior tennis rankings that year as a result of his performance. In 2017, he made his Grand Slam debut at the French Open, where he defeated Thomas Fabbiano, Gleb Sakharov, and Oscar Otte to qualify for the main event, but lost in straight sets to Ivo Karlovic.
He also advanced to the main draw at Wimbledon in 2017 after defeating Santiago Giraldo, Yannick Hanfmann, and Joris De Loore, but lost in straight sets to Duan Lajovi. He also qualified as an alternate for the 2017 Next Gen ATP Finals. In April 2018, he attracted international notice after reaching his first career ATP final at the Barcelona Open, defeating four top-ten players including Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem.
