Thiago Seyboth Wild scripted the upset of the 2023 French Open when he defeated Daniil Medvedev in the first round. The Brazilian held his nerve to beat the second seed in a breathtaking five-set encounter. The World No. 172 ranked Brazilian only entered the main draw after winning three qualifying matches.

Wild defeated Dominik Koepfer in the last round of qualifying to book a place in the main draw of the 2023 French Open. Not many players would have backed the 23-year-old to even put up a fight against Daniil Medvedev, who had just claimed the Italian Open title. The Russian entered the tournament as one of the top contenders, as he came into the French Open on the back of his maiden clay court title.

Wild started the match on the front foot, as he claimed the first set. However, Medvedev seemed to be easing into the encounter, as he quickly claimed a 2-1 sets lead. A first-round defeat looked imminent for the Brazilian, who had other plans. He won the final two sets to script an epic comeback against the World No. 2.

Thiago Seyboth Wild became only the second Brazilian to win a Junior Grand Slam title. He claimed the Junior US Open title back in 2018, reaching the semifinals of the Roland Garros in the same year. He claimed his first Challenger title in 2019 in Guayaquil, as he entered the top 300 rankings for the first time.

Wild made his first ATP appearance at the Brasil Open in 2018. The Brazilian received a wildcard into the tournament, on the back of his good performances that year. He won his first ATP title in 2020, as he claimed the Chile Open title, defeating Casper Ruud in the finals.

The 23-year-old did not have promising results on the tour in 2021 and 2022. However, 2023 has started on a bright note for the youngster, given that he also won the Challenger Event in Buenos Aires a couple of months ago. He qualified for the main draw of the Roland Garros for the first time, and probably secured the biggest victory of his career against Daniil Medvedev in just the first round.
