Serena Williams’ on-screen father, Will Smith paid almost half of her career prize money in ‘King Richard’

Will Smith and Serena Williams
Legendary actor Will Smith will play the role of Serena and Venus Williams’ father in his upcoming movie ‘King Richard’. The trailer for the movie is out and the hype around the movie couldn’t be more, given the big names surrounding it. The movie’s trailer has received overwhelming response and is all set to hit the screens in November later this year.
Interestingly, it is reported that Will Smith will be paid a massive $40 million for the movie. To put things into perspective, Serena William’s total on-court earnings is about $94 million while Venus has earned around $42 million on court. What this means is that Smith will be getting almost half of Serena’s earnings and will be making almost 100% of Venus’ earnings in just one movie!
But it doesn’t come as a shock given Smith’s stature in the movie industry and the brand value which he tags along. “So now, I’m proud to show you all our first trailer for King Richard, the story of the man who introduced the world to @Venus Williams and Serena Williams. The origin story for some REAL DEAL superheroes,” Smith wrote during the trailer release.
Serena Williams eyeing 24th major at Flushing Meadows

On court, Serena Williams will again be pushing for the elusive 24th slam. She won her last major at Melbourne in 2017 and since then, has reached 4 grand slams final- Wimbledon 2018 and 2019, US Open 2018 and 2019, but hasn’t been able to go all the way. She came very close earlier in the Australian Open too where she reached the semifinals, but lost to eventual champion Naomi Osaka.
Williams has consistently done well at the US Open since 2008. She has atleast made it to the semifinals at Flushing Meadows everytime she has played since 2008 and has won 4 titles too. This year too, she is expected to get a lot of home support and this maybe her best chance to win a record 24th slam on her home soil.
