Novak Djokovic won his 20th Grand Slam Championships on Sunday, defeating Matteo Berrettini 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 in the Wimbledon final, equaling Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Djokovic, the world No. 1, won his third All England Club title in a row and his sixth overall.
With his sixth Wimbledon championship, Djokovic has reduced the gap on second-placed Pete Sampras and William Renshaw (7) and top-ranked Roger Federer (8) for the most titles. Djokovic has already won 85 championships in his career. In 2003, he went pro. He currently has nine Australian Open titles, six Wimbledon crowns, two French open and three US Open titles under his belt.
This is his fourth championship in 2021, following victories in the Australian Open, Belgrade 2 and the French Open. With the US Open just around the corner and Djokovic appearing unstoppable, he has a chance to complete either the Golden Slam or the Calendar Grand Slam.
How much money Champion Novak Djokovic will take home?
Novak Djokovic will receive a large sum of money in addition to the prized trophy. The Serbian is expected to receive an estimated 1.7 million pounds (INR 17.6 crore) for winning the Championship this year. Surprisingly, the prize money has dropped dramatically since the last Wimbledon tournament because of the COVID-19 pandemic. When Djokovic won the championship in 2019, he got £2.35 million in prize money (INR 24.3 crore). Matteo Berrettini, who came in second place, will earn a prize of 900,000 pounds (INR 9.32 crore).
Novak Djokovic became the first tennis player to earn more than $150 million in his career just a few days ago. With just under US$130 million to his name, Roger Federer trails Djokovic by a considerable margin, while Spaniard Rafael Nadal is close behind with US$125 million. From there, the ranks plummet: Andy Murray has a net worth of US$61 million, Peter Sampras has a net worth of US$43 million, and so on.
