Ashleigh Barty last played at the Madrid Open 2021, where she was defeated in the finals by Aryna Sabalenka. The Australian has been enjoying a good run of form in the past month. The top seed won the Miami Open 2021, and also claimed the Stuttgart Open title in April. Barty received a bye in the first round by virtue of being the first seed. In the second round, she defeated Yaroslava Shvedova in straight sets, and dropped just seven games.
In the third round, Barty scored another straight sets victory against the Russian, Veronika Kudermetova. The French Open 2019 champion has been dominant during the clay-clourt season, and has adopted a much more aggressive style of play.
Coco Gauff has been a surprise name in the quarterfinals this year in Rome. Although, the American is super talented, yet she has failed to perform consistently at big events. However, she has been in amazing form this week at the Italian Open 2021.
