Alexander Zverev vs Taylor Fritz : Preview
Alexander Zverev continues his hunt for maiden Grand Slam as he wraps up another straight-set victory at the Wimbledon 2021, with Tennys Sandgren being his victim this time as he defeated the American 7-5, 6-2, 6-3 in 1 hour and 45 minutes to move into the 3rd round for the 4th time in his 6 appearances so far at the All-England Club.
Zverev had a fun outing in the 2nd round where despite playing his usual tennis and winning the match, he was involved in some friendly banter with Sandgren and also the crowd, something which he very prolifically mentioned in his post-match press conference.
Taylor Fritz enters the third round at the Wimbledon finally after 4 failed attempts. Fritz who made his competition debut 2016 reached the 2nd round for the first time in 2018 and after successive 2nd round defeats in 2018 and 2019, he finally enters the 3rd round at the Grand Slam.
Fritz has surprised a whole lot of people with his quick comeback after having gone a knee surgery 3-weeks prior to the Wimbledon. Despite that, he reaches the 3rd round having played a 4-setter in the 1st round and followed it up with a 6-4, 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-7(4), 6-4 victory in the 2nd round against fellow American Steve Johnson in 3 hours and 47 minutes.
Alexander Zverev vs Taylor Fritz : Head to Head
This will be their 4th career meeting and 2nd at Wimbledon. They previously met in the 2nd round of the 2018 Wimbledon in what a thrilling 5-setter clash which Zverev won like their 1st meeting. Fritz later won their 3rd and so far the last meeting at the 2019 Swiss Indoors in Basel. Alexander Zverev leads the head-to-head tie 2-1.
Alexander Zverev vs Taylor Fritz : Prediction
Fritz will come into the tie with a career Grass record of 29-20 and an overall season record of 15-10. He has been a good player on the surface and it won’t be an easy win for Zverev like he has had so far in the two rounds. Taylor’s knee could be another issue for him having played some high intensity games after coming back from a surgery.
Zverev however, will be the favourite for the tie as he comes in with a career Grass record of 27-15 and an overall season record of 26-10. He has looked flawless in the two rounds so far and with him enjoying the crowd support as well, it looks like Zverev will be extending his stay at the All-England Club this week.
Prediction: Alexander Zverev to win in straight-sets.
