“That’s where things got weird”- Henry Cejudo puts up a special condition for his return

Henry Cejudo, the former UFC bantamweight and flyweight champion simultaneously, and the Olympic gold medalist as well, might come out of his retirement after two years to compete for the third UFC title, at the featherweight. Regardless of Cejudo’s back and forth with the UFC for not considering him for fighting the current UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski when the latter’s original opponent Max Holloway stepped out because of an injury, Cejudo is still in confidence that he will eventually fight Volkanovski and that too for the title.
However, it’s not easy to see how things will turn out, for UFC President Dana White, Cejudo couldn’t be considered because of his abrupt comeback out of the retirement without any prior notice. Cejudo then felt he should remind White of the times he gave fighters like Conor McGregor and Georges St-Pierre a chance to comeback and fight for the title after not competing for more than a couple of years into the sport. The back-and-forth has ended but not sure if both the UFC and Cejudo have come to any terms as of recently for Cejudo’s career ahead.

MMA Legend Chael Sonnen took to his Youtube Channel to talk about his experience as being the official analyst for Eagle FC‘s EFC 44 and his interaction with the UFC fighters, Cejudo himself, current welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, and former lightweight champion and Eagle FC owner Khabib Nurmagomedov.
So talking about Cejudo, Sonnen made a huge announcement while being critical of his decision fighting for the 145-lbs belt. “Henry’s mind is getting pulled in different directions, he is not completely committed to one idea,” says Sonnen. “But I asked him, ‘Henry, for sure are you coming back?’ he said ‘Yes’… so I’m coming to the opinion that 135 is still in plat and that’s where this got weird…
He said ‘no 145 it is’,” continued Sonnen in a surprised manner. “He [Cejudo] said, ‘Chael I’m in the USADA pool, I’m training twice a day, I’m ready to go I want Volkanovski’… he for sure was willing to tell me that after he beats Volkanovski he’s going to stick around and defend the title for a few years.
He was also very confident telling me if he lost to Volkanovski, he’s going to stick around and take on the contenders, [then] I need to know the specific order! Henry will you take on the contenders before you get the shot at Volkanovski? I couldn’t pin him down guys, I couldn’t pin him down.
But I can tell you that look in Henry’s eye, he means this, this is real for sure, for you Cejudo fans out there, be happy you’re getting your guy back… for now I feel good, I feel good in telling you, Henry will be back!” Sonnen concludes.
What do you make of the return of Henry Cejudo, the Olympic gold medalist, the former 2-division champion of the UFC? To have a guy with these credentials to come back for more gold and success is rather a blessed time for us fans to witness a great moment, potentially cemented for the history, unfold as someone attempts to climb the mountain back again, in order to be immortalised in legacy, for once and for all!
