Losing the Daytona 500 after securing the pole was a bad practice session on Saturday and starting from the back of the grid for a penalty after the team made some necessary modifications to the ignition, all odds were against defending NASCAR Cup series champion Kyle Larson in Fontana.
Kyle Larson climbed to the top in his Hendrick Motorsports Number 5 Chevrolet surviving 12 cautions and restarts. Kyle Larson was all set for the win in the final 10 laps but the 12 cautions that came out forced him to restart giving Daniel Suarez, Austin Dillon, and Erik Jones a chance to hunt him down.
But they were unable to top Kyle Larson who was going for his second Auto Club Speedway in win Daniel Suarez went all in as he was able to get in the lead with only 3 laps to go but Kyle Larson overcame the massive runoff Turn 4 which cost him the lead and took the back holding of Daniel Suarez before the chequered flag.

Kyle Larson Acknowledged that it’s always fun to win in his home state adding the hard work the team put in after a poor practice session on Saturday, which helped him to control the car better. He went on to say that some misfortunes of his fellow competitors who had faster cars also played a big part in his win. Kyle Larson added that the whole race was wild and crazy so winning is cool and shred his optimism that the team can get the winning momentum going.
“Always fun here to win in the home state. Hard work all weekend there. Didn’t feel great in practice yesterday. [Crew chief Cliff Daniels] and everybody made some good adjustments overnight, and the car handled a lot better. Some guys were quicker than us, but they had their misfortunes,” Kyle Larson said.
“Just kept our heads in it all day. Long race. Restarts were crazy, the whole runs were crazy. Definitely wild, but cool to get a win here in California, and hopefully we can get on a little streak,” Kyle Larson added.
Kyle Larson and Co will hit the Las Vegas Motor Speedway as the west coast swing continues with Pennzoil 400 where Kyle Larson secured his first win in the 2021 championship-winning campaign.
