“They think it’s just me, me, me” ATP chief Andrea Gaudenzi on Novak Djokovic’s PTPA
The new breakaway body created by Novak Djokovic and Vasek Pospisil has found acceptance. According to Djokovic, the sole purpose to create PTPA is to provide the needs of players with adequate importance.
The professional tennis players association began right before the US Open. In a recent conversation, the Chief of the ATP (Association of tennis players) has come forth to support the players claiming to “sympathize” with them.
I welcome constructive criticism: Andrea Gaudenzi
Reportedly, The PTPA has garnered over 150 players in the association. They initiated to include women as part of the association as well. However, there are certain aspects of the PTPA that are uncertain. The association is still in the early stages and is yet to confirm an official statement of purpose.
In a conference call with ESPN Andrea said, “Actually, we want to help, and we are listening. It’s at a very early stage, so it is difficult at the moment to have a clear understanding of the scope and whether there is an overlap [with the ATP] or not. We definitely had a conversation and continue to have it. We cannot ignore that some of the players feel certain areas need to be improved.”
The Italian affirms to be talking about the same with Novak. It will be interesting to see if they can have mutual agreement.

I completely sympathize with the players: ATP Chief
In a long conversation, the Italian was kind enough to show sympathy. In his days during the 90s, Aundrea recalls his struggles and experiences. The association has the responsibility to help players off the court and provide adequate representation.
First and foremost, I have to say I sympathize a lot with the players, and it helps me a lot having been a player,” Gaudenzi said.
“I’ve been in those shoes. I know how it feels. You are an individual, travelling on your own, not part of a team. You see the world from your perspective, with a lack of appreciation of what is behind a tennis tournament. While playing, you work hard, go on court and think it’s just me, me, me. So I completely sympathize,” he added.
The 47-year-old Gaudenzi acknowledged the interests of the player, recalling his days in the top 20. “They definitely have the objective to improve life for the players on the tour, and we have nothing against that,”. As per his statements, the chief is all set to reach a settlement with Serbian world no.1
