Golf great Tiger Woods suffered another setback recently. On Saturday, the golfer announced that he had undergone another back surgery, which sparked concern among fans regarding his future.

The former World No.1 had been on the sidelines this year after he ruptured his Achilles tendon in March while preparing for the Masters Tournament. He had not played competitively since the 2024 Open Championship at the Royal Troon.

Recently, Woods was spotted hitting some golf shots on a range. After celebrating the opening of his second TGR Learning Lab in Philadelphia, he would fly to New York and was seen hitting some shots alongside Will Zalatoris at the Liberty National.

A few days back, the playing field for the 2025 Hero World Challenge was revealed. Like always, 17 players were announced with 3 exemptions to be revealed later. Woods, who serves as the host of this event, was expected by a few to be named as one of them.

However, that will not be the case now. In a message on his social media accounts, the 82-time PGA Tour winner expressed having some discomfort in his back. He would later undergo surgery on his back to replace his disc.

After experiencing pain and lack of mobility in my back, I consulted with Doctor and Surgeons to have tests taken. The scans determined that I had a collapsed disk in L4/5, disc fragments and a compromised spinal canal. I opted to have my disc replaced yesterday, and I already know I made a good decision for my health and my back.

This surgery is the 3rd Woods has undergone in the past 13 months. After his appearance at the Open Championship, he underwent his 6th back surgery in September 2024.

He did not appear at the Hero World Challenge last year. However, he did play the PNC Championship in December alongside his son, Charlie Woods, and finished as the runner-up following a playoff loss against Bernhard Langer and his son.

Since then, Woods has not played golf on the golf course. This year, he would take part in the inaugural edition of the TGL and represent his team, Jupiter Links GC. His team finished 5th in the standings and missed the playoffs after recording just 1 win.

Given this surgery, there are chances that Woods will not play any sort of competitive golf this year. His participation in the PNC Championship this year is also uncertain at the moment.
