Indian Olympic Contingent for Tokyo Olympics
The much-awaited Tokyo Olympics are only five days away and the Indian contingent is all set to script history. As athletes from all around the world start to arrive at the host city, the Indian Olympic contingent took off for Tokyo. India’s badminton, table tennis and members from other contingents departed from Delhi airport on Saturday (July 17) evening.
India is sending a 127 strong contingent for the Summer Games which is the highest in the history of the nation. The Indian athletes will be participating in 18 events and are expected to return with a historic medal bounty. Ace huttler PV Sindhu, table tennis players Manika Batra, swimmer Srihari Nataraj were among those who were clicked at the Delhi airport as they boarded the flight.

How many medals can India win?
India’s performance at the 2016 Rio Olympics was underwhelming, to say the least. However, with India sending its biggest contingent to the Tokyo Olympics, the hopes for winning medals are more than ever. With the likes of Sindhu, Deepika, Saurabh Chaudhary, Mary Kom and Bajrang Punia a part of the Indian contingent, the chances for India to bag Olympic medals is high.
Gracenote, an analytical company, is said to provide statistical data for how medals a country will win at the Olympics. In the Tokyo Games, India is projected to equal its combined tally of 17 medals over the last 12 Olympic Games. In total, India will win 17 medals with our gold medals, five silver and eight bronze.
