Tokyo Olympics 2020: When and where to watch PV Sindhu’s second group stage match

PV Sindhu

Ace shuttler PV Sindhu is the only shuttler who remains in contention for a podium finish at the Tokyo Olympics. The sixth seed, who is a favorite for a top-three finish, will be in action on Wednesday as she takes on Hong Kong’s Cheung Ngan Yi in her second group stage game. Sindhu is expected to not only top the group but make it to the semifinal. Being the lone athlete in the event, the nation’s expectations now lie on her shoulder.

PV Sindhu has got off to a scintillating start at the Tokyo Olympics. In her opening encounter with Israel’s Ksenia Polikarpova, Sindhu rushed home with straight sets of 21-7 21-10. The Indian was on the attack from the get-go as a lower-ranked Polikarpova had no clue what she is up against.

Winning the first game in the blink of an eye, Sindhu looked in a hurry to finish the match and she did so with ease. Having rattled the Israeli shuttler early on in the game, Sindhu struck to her strengths as she toyed around with Polikarpova. The sixth seed was looking to make the moves and took the attack to the opposition by targetting the lines.

Sindhu’s second game is expected to be another jog in the park. Ngan Yi is ranked 34th in the world and hence will be piece of cake for a seasoned campaigner like Sindhu. Her second match of the summer Olympics will kick off at 7:30 AM (IST) as per schedule.

Following the group stage, a Herculean task awaits the Indian. First off she will be squaring off with 12th seed Mia Blichfeldt of Denmark in the pre-quarterfinal round. Up next will be Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi in the quarters followed by World number 1 Tai Tzu-Ying in the semis. Sindhu will have to give it her all if she is to replicate her Rio success.
