The Indian Olympic contingent is set to be honoured on 15th August. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to invite the Indian Olympians who represented the country at the Tokyo Olympics on the occasion of Independence day. The athletes will be the special guests of the occasion at the Red Fort.

The Indian athletes have given their best on the big stage. India sent a record 126 athletes for the Tokyo Olympics, the highest in the history of the games. The Tokyo Games saw India winning a medal on the very first day as Mirabai Chanu bagged silver in weightlifting. The Asian country also managed to win its maiden fencing match on debut thanks to Bhavani Devi.

While it is a great gesture by the Prime Minister, the move precedes not so good news for India. The Indian men’s hockey team faltered in the semifinal against Belgium in the morning. While medal hopes are still alive, they miss out on a top-two finish. The Indian wrestling campaign too got off on the wrong foot with Sonam Malik losing her maiden Olympic bout.
