Norway had a stupendous run in the Tokyo Olympics as they were yet to be beaten in the tournament. In Group A, they topped the points table after winning all their five matches with a goal difference of 47. In the quarterfinal, they beat Hungary 26-22 on Wednesday.

However, ROC handed them their maiden defeat in the event. Norway lost 26-27 and also went out of contention to win the gold medal. ROC stamped their authority in the first half, winning by 14-11. Though Norway came back 15-13 in the second half, they couldn’t outclass ROC.

Sweden topped the points table in Group B, having garnered seven points from five games with a goal difference of 19. Barring their game against Hungary on August 2, Sweden looked at their best. In the quarter-final, they brushed away South Korea by a margin of 39-30.

However, in the semi-final against France, Sweden were unable to hold their nerve as they lost 27-19. In the first half, France took the all-important 15-14 lead. In the second half, they won 14-13. Though the game went down to the wire, Sweden couldn’t make the cut.
