Despite being on the shelf since the end of last year, Tom Aspinall has not forgotten his grudge against Ciryl Gane. The interim champion eye poked the Brit in their fight at UFC 321, which has kept him away from the cage for nearly ten months. As he prepares to make his comeback to the octagon, Aspinall has chosen to mock the Frenchman on social media.
At UFC 321, Gane actually put up a really good fight against the undisputed heavyweight champion, albeit for one round. That is because towards the end of the first round, he somehow managed to get his fingers into both of Aspinall’s eyes. This left the Salford-native with a severe bilateral traumatic Brown’s syndrome, which required the British heavyweight to get double eye surgery.
As such, with rumors of a potential rematch gaining credence every day, Tom Aspinall has trolled his rival. In a video posted on his Instagram, he compiled a litany of fouls committed by ‘Bon Gamin’ and then showed his “preparations” for the same in a skit. The skit depicted the usual process of Aspinall’s fight gear like his mouthpiece and cup getting checked by a cutman ahead of a hypothetical fight.
However, in the video, the British champion is supposedly fighting Ciryl Gane. As such, he is made to wear a helmet in order to protect him from illegal strikes. But in a comical twist, the cutman once again stops the champion short, pulling down his visor to prevent eye pokes before finally letting him pass.
Training for the rematch has begun.

Gane has come under a lot of fire recently for the amount of fouls he commits in his fights. There exists an entire compilation of his fouls, much like the one Tom Aspinall included in the aforementioned video on his Instagram page. Moreover, these accusations haven’t been helped by the illegal shots the Frenchman landed on Alex Pereira, which were acknowledged by Dana White.
That said, the foul ‘Bon Gamin’ committed against Aspinall was clearly the most consequential one despite his claims of the Brit exaggerating his reaction to the poke. After all, the Englishman has not been back in the cage yet. As such, UFC commentator Joe Rogan has questioned whether he will ever be able to return to active competition.
Joe Rogan questions whether Tom Aspinall will ever fight again
Tom Aspinall has not fought since UFC 321 which happened in October last year. The effects of the double eye pokes he suffered against Gane were quite severe as the champion immediately claimed that he was unable to see after the foul. After the fight ended in a no-contest, the MMA world saw the damage to his eyes in the days that followed.

As mentioned prior, the English heavyweight only recently returned to training in April, around 6 months on from when he first suffered the injury. Despite a few positive updates since then, veteran commentator Joe Rogan has questioned whether the undisputed heavyweight champion will ever be ready to comeback to the octagon.
I mean Tom Aspinall still can’t see he’s got a [expletive] up right eyeball still. I mean the reality is he might not ever fight again like who knows…apparently he’s still [expletive] up in his right eye. There’s some some tendon damage or something and eyes are so tricky, you never know

"The reality is, Tom might never fight again. Who knows if he has surgery on his eye and it doesn’t go well and he can’t see out of the eye
Apparently, he’s still fked up in his right eye

Rogan’s speculation aside, the undisputed heavyweight champion seemed to verbally accept Ciryl Gane’s callout for a fight in Paris. The Frenchman had issued this callout immediately after defeating Alex Pereira at the White House to win his second interim heavyweight title. Tom Aspinall had also alluded to the winner of the interim title being his next fight.
However, so far, the UFC has not confirmed this fight so it remains to be seen whether their highly anticipated rematch happens in September as expected. That said, it does appear that Aspinall is gearing up to return and defend his heavyweight title.
