In the history of sports, there is no doubt that Tom Brady and his New England Patriots’ rally from down 28-3 against the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI was one of the best comebacks of all time.

The Patriots as a team proved they had all the fight in them, even though pictures at halftime showed that the former 199th pick was looking lost at the prospect of losing another Super Bowl.

Brady rallied his team to score 31 points, starting from the second half and into overtime, to complete what is generally regarded as the greatest comeback in sports history.

Even if something surprisingly good happens in any sport today, it’ll be hard to surpass what happened on February 5th, 2017. But it seems Tom Brady believes a certain Lionel Messi and his Argentinian national team have surpassed it.

It is unclear whether the Fox Sports commentator said this in passing or if he was serious about it. The man who engineered that famous comeback to claim that this win against the Egyptian national side in the World Cup is better than his was quite the statement.

Maybe he felt that to win the game with just 11 minutes left in regulation and three additional minutes of extra time was beyond what he had done nine years ago.

Fans remind Tom Brady that Super Bowl LI cannot be topped

Football fans know that the World Cup has produced some exceptional games that have even left many to forget that the NFL offseason is still in session.

But when they saw Tom Brady labeling Lionel Messi and his teammates’ comeback win on Tuesday as something greater than what the quarterback achieved in Super Bowl LI, they felt he was exaggerating.

They took to social media to make it clear that the 48-year-old was wrong. They reiterated that his effort, along with that of his Patriots teammates, is still the best ever. Check out examples of those reactions below.

Sure, Argentina scoring three goals after going down 0-2 to Egypt was definitely a spectacular comeback. Then, to do it in Atlanta made it even more of a head-scratcher.

No wonder some questioned whether there was something in the water that always helps the favorites to end up upsetting the underdogs.

Tom Brady was not the only NFL player to recognize Lionel Messi’s greatness

With less than 1/8th of the game to go, everyone felt that Lionel Messi was also going to bow out of this World Cup career in the same manner as Cristiano Ronaldo did in the round of 16. But lo-and-behold, when the first goal cracked in at 79 minutes, there was belief that this game was not over.

Then, when Lionel Messi scored at 83 minutes, several NFL players lost their minds. Patrick Mahomes, Pat McAfee, and Dez Bryant instantly labeled the Argentinian as the all-time GOAT.

Others, such as George Kittle and Budda Baker, remarked that Argentina as a squad was not going to go down that easily, especially being the defending champions.

This World Cup has kept fans glued, even though there were concerns that the political situation in America would cast a shadow over the world’s greatest game.

However, so far it has been nothing but exciting. NFL fans and players alike are enjoying every bit of it. Now, they might see Messi get a clear chance to reach his second straight final. Even though Team USA is no longer in it, the excitement is not dying.
