Lewis Hamilton raised a few eyebrows during the start of the season, as he signed the one-year contract extension at Mercedes, at the very last moment. It was believed that the Briton would attempt to win his historic eighth championship this season, and hang up his helmet at the end of the year.

However, the 36-year old gets better with every race. He is currently leading the championship, with 94 points in the first four races. Mercedes team principal, Toto Wolff believes that Lewis Hamilton will sign a multi-year contract at Silver Arrows, and he seemed to be confident about his statement.

Yes, it should be [more than a year],” said the Mercedes team principal in an interview with PA. “We don’t want to be in a stressful situation every single year where we are absolutely flat-out trying to win races and needing to negotiate. I would rather that doesn’t happen every year,” said Wolff.

“We just need to spend a day or two together, put it out there, and decide which are the difficult components. We will then lock the door and won’t walk out until it is sorted. That works best for us and it has worked best for us in the past,” he added.

Toto Wolff was asked whether Lewis Hamilton can continue racing in his 40s. The Austrian did not hesitate even for a moment, and believes that Hamilton’s discipline will help him achieve success even in his 40s.

Yes, absolutely. I have no doubt about that. He is so disciplined that in a way it is inspiring. As long as Lewis continues to look after himself mentally and physically, continues to develop cognitively, then he can go on for much longer,” said Wolff.

Look at Tom Brady and we are talking about an athlete that is on the field. Here is a racing driver that has utilized all his senses,” he continued.

Lewis Hamilton claimed the third win of his season at the Spanish GP on Sunday, after Mercedes came up with an excellent strategy. It was the 98th career win for Lewis, and he will look to claim his third successive win of the season at the Monaco GP, next week.
