Toto Wolff dismisses Christian Horner’s claims of Max Verstappen being better than Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton has surely encrypted his name in the history of Formula 1 for many years to come. Having been a part of Mercedes Team, Hamilton has not only established himself as one of the best drivers on the grid. But also picked up Mercedes to achieve greater heights than ever. Surely there are no claims of anyone being better than Lewis Hamilton? Red Bull Boss Christian Horner did not think so and had earlier made a claim that Hamilton is on the top rather it is Max Verstappen. The former is driving the fastest car as compared to everyone else. 

This surely did not go well with Team Mercedes as Team Boss, Toto Wolff comes out to defend his driver, Lewis Hamilton’s pride and dismissed of all Horner’s claims. Wolff said the fact that Hamilton is on the top is because of his sheer talent and skill. Even statically, Hamilton was on a league of his own in the 2020 season, where he ran past everyone else, be it Max Verstappen. 

Toto Wolff on Christian Horner’s claims 

Wolff said, “Christian can’t stop with the teasing in the background, but that’s part of the game.” 

However, Wolff believes it still too early to claim who is the best driver on the grid. 

Wolff went on to say, “You can only judge the best drivers on the grid if you let them race each other. We didn’t see Lewis against Max, we didn’t see George against Lewis, we haven’t seen Charles Leclerc in a top car. 

“But the future belongs to the young drivers and at some point, they will all race against each other with the same equipment and then we will see who is the best.” 

Having said that, for Mercedes, irrespective of who’s driving for them, their aim would be to win yet another world title this year. The question remains who will lead them in the 2021 season, will Hamilton be breaking the World Record of most Championships? Or the story unfolds another twist?
