Colorado’s two-way star Travis Hunter missed the second half of their 34-7 blowout win over Arizona at Saturday’s noon kickoff. Hunter reportedly suffered a shoulder injury while making a tackle.

The Buffaloes dominated Arizona Wildcats from their first muffed onside kick. Quarterback Shedeur Sanders threw 2 touchdowns and rushed for one in the first half. Hunter only had two catches in the offense and a lone successful tackle in the defense before coach Deion Sanders took him off.

During the break, the doctors treated Hunter. After the restart, the 21-year-old was seen standing in street clothes at the Colorado dugout.

According to reports, it was the same shoulder that kept him out of the loss to Kansas State. FOX Sports reporter Allison Williams reported from the sidelines that Colorado coaches decided to avoid risking long-term injury.

Travis Hunter will be done for the day. It’s a re-aggravation of the injury he suffered last week but it’s more just to be cautious with him with this game the way it is, they wanna be safe. So his day is done.

The Buffaloes went on to win the game and are now 5-2 for the first time since 2018. Shedeur ended with 23 of 33 for 250 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. Despite the victory, most wanted to learn more about Hunter’s injury and whether it was anything serious.

During the post-game press conference, head coach Prime revealed that Hunter wanted to continue.

He’s a little sore, a little banged up. Sore and banged up. Travis wanted to play. I don’t know if he was quite 100% ready… He didn’t want to come off the field, but I’m proud of him, he’s phenomenal, a competitor, and just wanted to play.

Deion Sanders said (H/T: Colordoan)

As Sanders highlighted, Hunter has been phenomenal this season. Through seven games, he has caught 51 passes for 604 yards with 19 tackles, two interceptions, and one tackle for loss. He’s currently among the top 3 favorites for the Heisman Trophy alongside Boise State’s running back Ashton Jeanty and Oregon’s quarterback Dillon Gabriel.

Regardless of the competition, the former five-star recruit believes he deserves to be named the best player in college football.

You have to be the best [in the nation]. I play 130 snaps a game. There ain’t nobody out there doing 130 snaps [a game] and still putting up the right numbers. [I try not to think about it because] my main goal is to stay focused on my team. Individual awards will come.

Colorado needs him for future games. In their remaining fixtures, Sanders’ men will play against Cincinnati, Texas Tech, Utah, Kansas, and Oklahoma State.
