Travis Hunter badly wants to win the Heisman Trophy. The Colorado Buffaloes star made his intentions clear after another great performance on Saturday night.

Deion Sanders men faced off against an unbeaten UCF Knights team in Florida. The hype surrounding the game was immense because a win would secure the Buffs a fourth win of the season after just five games.

Hunter once more looked in a league of his own as a receiver but did not see much action in the defense until the third quarter. The 21-year-old had zero tackles or assists until a mistake from the UCF quarterback gifted him a big play.

With 8 minutes left, UCF’s KJ Jefferson snapped the ball on 1st & 10. He quickly threw the ball aiming for tight end Evan Morris. However, Hunter sniffed out the pass and dived forward, snatching away the second interception of his 2024 season.

After that, Travis Hunter ran the length of the field and struck a pose similar to the silhouette of the Heisman Trophy.

Travis Hunters sends Heisman warning to the rest of college football

The Heisman Trophy is awarded to the best player in college football. Hunter is certainly up there with some of the best. However, in his eyes, there’s none more deserving compared to him.

Hunter has a rare trait that sets him apart from the rest of the bandwagon. Despite being a great receiver, he also contributes in defense with equal efficiency, which is why he draws parallels with former Heisman Trophy winner Charles Woodson, with whom he and coach Prime sat down for an interview.

Before the UCF game, Hunter had 37 catches for 472 yards and five touchdowns, along with 13 tackles, an interception, and a forced fumble in 130 all-purpose snaps. Hunter claimed he couldn’t think of anyone else doing the same job as him.

You have to be the best [in the nation]. I play 130 snaps a game. There ain’t nobody out there doing 130 snaps [a game] and still putting up the right numbers. [I try not to think about it because] my main goal is to stay focused on my team. Individual awards will come.

Travis Hunter told Charles Woodson on Fox’s Big Noon Kick-off.

Hunter wants to set an example for his younger brothers and sisters about the benefits of hard work. It’s undeniably working wonders for the former Jacksonville star. Currently, the Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward leads the Heisman watch with a +450, according to FOX Sports, while Hunter is at +2500.
